Crucial MX500 1TB SATA 2.5" 7mm Internal SSD Review

Storage/SSD by stefan @ 2019-06-20

The 1TB version of the MX500 Crucial SSD does trade punches with the 500GB and 250GB versions we have previously tested and overall we are seeing good mainstream performance for both reads and writes. We are getting plenty of storage space for different activities and the endurance is great as well: the 1TB model is rated at 360TB of written data, which translates in about 197GB per day for the warranty period of 5 years.

Packaging, A Closer Look

After visiting the 250GB M.2 version of the MX500 and the 500GB 2.5’’ form factor, it is time to try out the 1TB 2.5’’ version, especially now when the SSD prices have dropped dramatically. The MX500 drive was shipped inside a compact cardboard enclosure that does show the aluminum casing of the product on the top cover, along with the total storage space:

On the back side of the box we will get to see some of the main product highlights (in multiple languages) but also the product internal code name and serial number:

After unsealing the box, we will get to see a small documentation leaflet sitting on top:

Here we will get to see the Crucial web resources for extra support:

The product is placed secure inside a black plastic mold:

Besides the SSD, we will also get a 7mm to 9.5mm spacer, which will be used in older machines for compatibility purposes:

The 1TB version of the drive is identical outside versus the 500GB model; the top area houses a large sticker with the product brand name:

On the side we do have the mounting holes but also the screws that keep the top cover fixed to the bottom:
