TP-LINK Neffos Y5L Smartphone Review

Mobile/Smart Phones by stefan @ 2016-09-27

The 4.5’’ Neffos Y5L smartphone from TP-LINK is reaching the low-end segment by incorporating a Snapdragon 210 32-bit SoC, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory (which can be further expanded via MicroSD cards). The back 5MP shooter is quite average, while the screen choice for this model is TN, which lowers the viewing angles, while the screen is harder to read during day light.

A Closer Look Part II

The wall charger is similar to the ones we have seen before and comes with a subtle Neffos logo in front:

On the back, we will learn by its inscriptions that it does output 5V at 1A:

The top area comes with a single USB port:

Next we do have the Neffos Y5L battery:

On its back, the manufacturer has written the technical specifications (we have a capacity of 2020mAh on this one), along with some usage warnings:

The product does come in three color flavors: Pearl White, Dark Grey and Sunshine Yellow; our sample was the Dark Grey variant and the overall dimensions make the Y5L ideal for fitting inside our pocket. The screen does sport a 4.5’’ diagonal, with a pretty low resolution of 854x480, so it won’t put a lot of strain on the included Qualcomm MSM8209 ARM Cortex-A7 1.1GHz SoC:

On the top area we’ve got the proximity sensor, the light sensor, the speaker, one 2MP camera for selfies but also a notification LED:

The Android Back, Home and Menu buttons are capacitive and not OS-based on the actual screen; a nice feature is that these light up for a bit when touched, so are visible even during low-light conditions; a TP-LINK logo is present right under these:

On the bottom area of the smartphone we’ve got the USB port, but also the microphone port:
