Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2 Review

Audio/Speakers&Amps by stefan @ 2016-09-06

With its experience from the past, Creative has managed to build an excellent multi-function device which can be also used in almost any situation where audio content is involved. We’ve got a built-in voice recorder, a built-in MP3 player, one speakerphone, a battery bank and an USB Sound Blaster incorporated with the Roar 2, which does also have many other configuration options available via software.

A Closer Look Part II

On the back of the adapter we will get to see that it is rated on the output as 15V at 1.6A:

The USB cable connectors are slightly modified for a more modern look:

For additional protection, the Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2 is also wrapped inside a foam layer:

Roar 2 is featuring a clean, professional look on top, with some of the control buttons placed together in the left corner which have functions of Power On/Standby, Volume Up/Down but also a multifunction button (for Bluetooth pairing/connecting and also for answering calls). Near the multifunction button we do also have a Power/Bluetooth status indicator and further to the right there is one Record LED indicator, a Battery LED indicator but also a NFC Receptor logo.

Under the black metallic mesh, we do have one central active 2.5’’ driver which acts as a subwoofer for pumping mids and lows. When the speaker is positioned upwards, we get a wider soundstage which does not require the listener to be situated in a certain spot. To the left and right of the 2.5’’ driver we do have two 1.5’’ high-frequency drivers, which are in charge of the high frequencies. The Sound Blaster Roar 2 is using two amplifiers: one dedicated for the lows and mids (powering the 2.5’’ driver) and the other for delivering high frequencies (in charge of the two 1.5’’ drivers):

In the frontal area of the unit we do have a central Creative logo; the product does feature dual orientation, meaning that we can also place in this area the provided adhesive rubber feet for propping it up in case we need more directed audio:

On both sides of the Roar 2 we will get to see passive radiators which are meant to deliver optimal bass reproduction for a speaker of this size; since this model is 20% smaller than the previous designs, the passive radiators are extracting air from the surroundings so we will still get a nice bass output when playing audio content:
