Corsair Carbide 240 AIR Computer Case Review

Cases & PSU/Cases by leeghoofd @ 2014-10-01

Corsair has been bombarding the MadShrimps reviewers with loads of new stuff since Computex 2014. Since motherboard brands are including mATX and even mITX boards in their lineup we see more and more of these tiny form factors appear at LAN parties. Portability is a big added bonus if you are a frequent LAN party visitor. Enclosure manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon and are including more frequently mITX cases. One of the biggest drawbacks of these tiny cases is the limited internal airflow, thus the heat buildup and stability of your favorite hardware components are compromised. Corsair has developed a shrinked-down version of their magnificent Carbide 540 AIR. The Carbide 240 AIR is again a two chamber cube, designed for maximum cooling and hardware compatibility, yet this time in a tiny form factor.

A Closer Look Part I

The top plastic cover can be easily removed after unscrewing two black thumbscrews. The top meshed grill has an included dust filter alike the front version. The top 120mm fan is setup to expel the heat from the top of the motherboard area. A second optional 120mm fan can be installed if deemed necessary. On the left we spot the access to the three 2.5 HDD/SSD cages, thus to gain access to these requires the removal of the top lid.

All the storage bays are of a screw less design, a quick clip in and your drives are neatly secured, that little typical extra that we expect from Corsair cases.

The 3.5'' HDD cage can be removed from the Carbide 240 Air by unscrewing the above thumbscrew. As displayed in the top right hand picture the thumbscrews remains in position and can't drop out, alike the ones on the two side panels. Up to three 2.5 or 3.5 storage devices can be installed in the removable drive cage. If one opts to also install 2.5" drives on these bays than these need to be secured via screws. Installing 3.5" drives doesn't require any screwdriver intervention.

Exterior access to the 3.5 inch HDDs is granted after removal of the rear protective cover, again a simple but effective solution from the Corsair engineering team.
