ASUSTOR AS-304T 4-bay NAS Server for Home Office Review

Storage/NAS by stefan @ 2013-09-30

ASUSTOR has recently released their AS-300T series represented with two NASes, one with 2 bays and the other with 4. These are powered by the latest Intel Atom CE5335 CPU at 1.6GHz, along with 1GB DDR3 of onboard memory and share the multimedia functions of their more expensive siblings, the AS-600T series. A remote can be also offered to navigate through the XBMC interface for extra cost, as an alternative to the USB mouse and keyboard.

A Closer Look Part II

The top left corner comes with the ASUSTOR logo, the Power/Shutdown button, one Power LED and a secondary System status LED:

Moving further down we can see the LAN LED (there is also a secondary unused LED left from the 6th series), but also an USB 3.0 port with Copy button and LED:

The main difference is in the display area, which is now missing and has been replaced by a black plastic cover:

As with the AS-604T, we get some ventilation holes on the left side of the chassis:

If we look in the back, we will spot some differences in connectivity; the power supply is still integrated inside the chassis and the large 120mm fan is meant to cool all 4 drive bays along with the hardware assembly (CPU, motherboard, daughterboard and so on):

Near the Kensington Lock port, we have two USB 2.0 ports, the LAN port, one HDMI, another USB 3.0 port and also an Audio jack:

On the bottom side of the unit we will spot 4 large rubber feet and some stickers:

The stickers have the product serial number and MAC printed, along with the power rating:

The trays can be unlocked by pressing the small button on the lower side of each one:
