KingFast F3 Series mSATA3.0 SSD KF1310MCF 120GB Review

Storage/SSD by stefan @ 2013-01-22

The F3 mSATA 3.0 SSDs from KingFast come in multiple storage variants and are especially made for fitting inside low profile HTPCs, high-end ultrabooks or light notebooks. Thanks to the included mSATA to SATA adapter which is included inside the packaging, we can also use the product inside any desktop PC.

Conclusive Thoughts

The F3 mSATA 3.0 SSD from KingFast does not disappoint and the 120GB variant contains a lot of storage space for boot partitions, leaving a lot of free space for installing our favorite applications.

The SSD can be used directly on the motherboards which support the mSATA 3.0 standard, consumes very little space and is ideal for tiny HTPC builds, high-end ultrabooks but also thin and light notebooks. In case we do not have a suitable bus, KingFast have also included an mSATA to SATA 2.5’’ adapter, so the SSD could be used in any other PC.

Now, regarding the system performance, the SSD performs really well, but it falls a little behind the SSDs with the same controller, which sport higher storage spaces.

Before aquiring such a product, make sure that the computer supports the mSATA V3.0 standard, because otherwise the performance will be throttled.

The F3 mSATA 3.0 120GB was available for about $119 at the moment of the review, about the same price as the M4 128GB SSD from Crucial, in the same mSATA format.
