Storage/NAS by stefan @ 2012-10-09

The DS413 NAS from Synology is aimed for the Home to Business Workgroup segment, provides good read/write speeds in most of the applications and features the highly configurable DSM. DSM supports plenty of additional services, accessible from the GUI, like DHCP, VPN, Syslog, Mail, Antivirus, Backup, Cloud Station and more.

The Synology DSM Software Part I

For installing the NAS DSM we have to follow the same steps as before; first, we'll use the Synology Assistant application to search for the NAS on the network; when it will be found, we'll see some more details about it like IP address, MAC, model, serial number:

From the same screen, we'll be able to install the DSM OS; for this, we have to point to a local address from where the installation file can be uploaded.

The latest version can be downloaded from the Synology website:

Next, the Assistant will request for an "admin" account password:

If we require to make IP network modifications, we can do so in the next screen:

Finally, we will see the status progress screen, which will show the installation steps:

After the DSM has been installed, the Synology Assistant will show the device as "Ready":
