ASRock Fatal1ty Z68 Professional Gen3 Motherboard Review

The Z68 Fatal1ty Professional Motherboard from ASRock is an upgraded product from the same series, featuring a Digital PWM, XFast USB Technology, XFast LAN, V16+2 CPU Power Phases, no less than 6 USB 3.0 ports (4 rear and 2 for the front panel) and 6 SATA3, C.C.O., THX TruStudio, and the unique Fatal1ty Mouse Port, which allows us to set the desired mouse polling rate, up to 1000Hz. Of course, thanks to the Z68 chipset we also have Lucid Virtu capabilities and multi VGA output options: one D-Sub port, two HDMI ports and one DVI-D port by the bundled HDMI to DVI adapter.

A Closer Look Part II

The moterboard has a clean layout and the colors chosen by the manufacturer are the ones that represent the Fatal1ty brand:

Between the VRM and the I/O connectors, we can find a lot of controllers; one of them is the ASMedia ASM1042, which is an USB 3.0 controller:

Next to it, there are two ASMedia ASM1442T high speed TMDS level shift ICs for the two HDMI output interfaces:

This board is equipped with two Realtek RTL8111E Gigabit Ethernet controllers, which support teaming function:

A secondary ASM1042 USB 3.0 controller can be found close to the Realteks:

In the same area, we can find one of the available fan headers:

Further down, on the left side of the PCB there is the CD1 internal audio connector:

The audio interface is provided by the Realtek ALC892, which is a high performance multi-channel High Definition Audio Codec with proprietary lossless content protection:
