After several weeks with the GT780, I must say that I'm pretty impressed by the performance of this laptop. Okay it can't come close to the performance of a similar priced desktop. But it is easily portable. Weighing in at a respectable 3.9 Kg. Just put it in the cool rucksack and you won't even notice you got a serious gaming PC on your back. For the rucksack the colour design is pretty good. But it's a tight fit and the quality of the fabrics could be a bit better to avoid it from tearing up.
The Steelseries keyboard design is pretty good. Having withstand hours of online bashing. Absolutely no issue when requiring multiple inputs while facing my online enemies on the battlefield. The LEDs bring that little bling, but in my case me I mostly disabled them. The software included for the different illuminations settings is pretty straightforward to use. Even though I never used the build in speakers while gaming, they however provided a clear and crisp sound when watching a movie. Only top quality is good enough for this GT780.
The gaming performance was more than powerfull enough to play most games at a decent detail level at the HD resolution of 1920 x 1080. Though I prefer to turn down the resolution to go even faster and have no issues of FPS lag when battling it out with my online friends. In games FPS rules and this laptop packs some serious processing power.
Even though the battery duration isn't stellar compared to modern notebooks. It's still a good compromise for such a powerfull laptop. Allowing daily usage of over 2 hours 30 isn't something to be overlooked. Gaming on the battery isn't advised as the perfomance will drop drastically ( over 50% ) So better plug it in the wall and enjoy a fast responsive game system.
As you prolly noticed the correct version we tested was the GT780R. But MSI launched at the time of writing an updated version baptised the GT780Dx (Deluxe ?) Sporting even more memory (up to 16Gb), an SSD - HDD combo and a more powerfull GTX570M GPU. However this will set you back at a whopping 1980 euros. The old GT780R is now known as GT780. Due to the numerous variations possible (CPU, storage and ram wise) the price difference ranges from 1100 euros to around 1500 euros ( our test bed ) Not cheap, but you get darn good portable performance hardware. If you are out for a decent laptop , that can be gamed upon, without the fear of a slideshow, these GT780 series will not dissapoint.
Since it's the fastest laptop we have currently tested I award the MSI GT780(R) the Madshrimps Performance and high end Award ! Two well deserved awards !
