MSI's R6870 Hawk Review

Videocards/VGA Reviews by petervandamned @ 2011-10-17

In this review we take a closer look at this AMD based HD6870 video card. Sporting a non reference design PCB and a specially built Twin Frozr III Cooler. For extra and stable power the 8+2 Phase VRM design make this Hawk card stands out from the 6870 cards. MSI provides this card with a dual speed fan switch. Retaling at a price around € 180, it's not even that more expensive regarding reference HD6870's. Interestingly enough the MSI 6870 Hawk can be found cheaper then some competitors versions.

Choice of the bullet range

What kind of bullets should we use to see what damage this baby can do?

First new comer is a Formula 1 test. Codemaster F1 2011 is the logical follow up of the 2010 version:

Let me show you how we do the benchmark test:

With the Ultra profile loaded and the 1920 * 1080 resolution selected this game looks like the real deal.

This one is blasting big holes and truely looking amazing.

Second one in the line of fire is an oldy but still a goody. Ubisoft's Far Cry 2 made in 2008, 2012 will be the launch of FC3. This is a very reliable benchmark, mostly scaling very well with extra GPU, CPU and/or ram power.

Third in line will be Electronic Arts Crysis 2 game

And for the last game test we picked Mafia 2 :

Ending with a repeating fire of 3Dmark's Vantage :

So let's see what the damage will be on the next page ->
