ThermalRight ALX800 A promising ALU/COPPER Heatsink from Thermalright, only Socket A users should apply This sample was provided by www.pc-cooling.de (yes the gummy bears were in the package from PC-Cooling.de :^D) Feature: * Super thin aluminum fins for maximized heat dissipation * Trapezoid heat sink base ensures effective heat conduction * Six pronged type heat sink clip Technical Spec.: Dimension: L84 x W58 x H42 (mm) - Top, without fan L32 x W58 - Base(mm) Weight: 400g (heat sink only) more info @ http://www.thermalright.com/a_page/m...uct_alx800.htm |
There were NO gummie bears ! JMke doesn't share food ! |
"were" in the package, past tense. |
Strange, the site from Thermalright shows reviews from 2003... :^D A tad late I think :D Btw, they got a rev. A... How much does it cost and what would you suggest to (almost passively) cool 2 MP2200+ CPU's? The delivery hasn't been done yet (they lost my package :grum: ) But it would be nice to know... I've got holes around the socket, but don't forget, there are 2 CPU's, so I think the mobo won't like 2 1kg-heavy heatsinks... |
ALX800 is a budget minded heatsink price should around $20 http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=...-8&sa=N&tab=wf |
I recall seeing it perform within a 2 degree celcius margin with it's bigger brother the SLK800. So it might be budget according to thermalright, it probably is right on top with the other highend aircooling heatsinks. I'm anxious to see your review JM. |

It's mine ! My preciousssss ;-) |
after Piotke has done his review I'll slap the ALX800 on my AXP mobile rig :) |
Do you think I could cool passively my dual CPU's with Thermalright SP-97 heatsinks? I think the fact they use the mounting holes and the presence of a backplate wouldn't be too bad for the mobo... Opinions are required here :D |
i'll see how long I'll be able to keep an AXP 2500+ cooled without fan and SP97 |
Thank you very much :ws: |
I've tried that with a Barton2500 (1.33V) and a SLK947U, and those temps got realy high (and kept raising). So, best thing to do is to put a 92mm fan @5V on it. |

no.. after 1-2 hours the temperature will be high enough for the system to do an auto shutdown. however, if you place 2 SP-97 on the CPU's and place a large 120mm above them (or the side panel) then it should work. without airflow however those CPU's will cook, no matter how good the heatsink is. |
As jmke adviced me once, you could slap on a tiny 40 or 60mm fan at 5V. Completely noiseless and it's 15-20°C colder than the passive solution. :) |
K, well, when I got the money I'll try it, both passive with a 92mm fan in the sidepanel... Thanks for the advice guys :super: |
Btw I am working on an article that checks if its worth while upgrading your slk800 to a sp97. |
