Damn shame about the dead XP2600+.. can't thermaltake be held responsible for such damage?

I enjoyed reading it! Good article bosw8er! :ws:

PS: a little error on the bottom of page 3:

Problem 8
Thermaltake copper spacers are a little thicker than the XP-core.
A perfectly good 2600XP down the drain in … what … about 2 to 3 seconds?

Interesting article,
I considered buying some silencing mats for a while, but now convinced that they will raise the temp too high...
Well done bosw8er

Bosw8er 25th June 2003 08:17

outtake = somthing funny in a movie or tvshow

EXHAUST is the word you were looking for.

Bosw8er 25th June 2003 20:03

I always thought outtake was the opposite of intake.

I will replace "outtake" by "exhaust"

... and "intake" by "inhaust" :D

You can try to lower your VCore. I lowered mine from 1.65V to 5.75V. And now it runs a few degrees lower.

small correction, my VCore is now 1.75, not 5.75

hey, i have an old article in a pc magazine that states that you could replace silencing mats for in your pc with something that is called "noppenschuim" in dutch (to those who don't understand dutch i am sorry i do not know te english term its a grey material mostly used for pacadging seen from the side it looks like ~~~ )

anny thoughts on this???

T-power 5th July 2003 02:03

effect about temperatures should be same as noise reducing mats.

Since they both make it impossible for the metalish case to absorb some of the heat produced.

note: how does one lower Vcore when it raises from 1.65 to 1.75 Unregistered person ??

Like the update- makes the article a lot different.

The update makes the silencing truly succesfull.
The core voltage is already lowered to 1.60V, running fine at 2.000 Mhz in stead of 1.833 Mhz ... temps are in the update

*** UPDATE ***
How about writing your very first article and making the wrong conclusion ?
Updating the motherboard bios (Abit NF7-version 2) to the latest BIOS gets rid of the "temperature too high issue".
I already thought it was impossible to have such high temps: the CPU had a better heatsink and a more powerful fan, the Barton had a better CW and larger die than the Thoroughbred and the case ventilation (3 x 19CFM) should be more than adequate.
Temps idle = 40 to 42°C
Temps load = 47 to 49°C
I'm happy and embarassed at the same time.
*** UPDATE ***

Bosw8er 7th July 2003 23:18

hehe, AS doing it's job or "normal" summer temps ?

Bosw8er 11th July 2003 16:05

:^D New Bios 17

Please use AWDFLASH 8.23D or later to update NF7 series BIOS. With incorrect AWDFLASH version, the GUID will be erased, and leads to IEEE1394 peer to peer function failed. AWDFLASH 8.23K is included in this BIOS package.
Fixed the exclamation point under Motherboard Resources of Device manager in Windows XP when use USB keyboard/mouse and set as"Support via BIOS".
Fixed the intermittent sirens when getting into Windows 2000 or XP with both "Shutdown when CPUFAN Fail" and "CPU Shutdown Temperature" enabled in PC Health Status.
Calibrated readings of "CPU Over Temp. Protect" option in SoftMenu III.
Fixed the problem that SATA BIOS string is wrongfully connected with PCI add on card BIOS.
Calibrated the CPU temperature again.
Revised DDR400 DRAM timing according to NVidia's recommendation.
Updated BPL to v3.02 according to NVidia's recommendation.
BIOS Compile Date: 7/2/2003.

Updating the article after every bios-update is NOT going to happen :D

Devil's Prophet 20th July 2003 14:41

Is that for the revision 2.0 ?

Because I liked the temps with v.16. :/
