Default Opteron 165 - Upgrade to X2

Last year I had the pleasure in getting my first taste of Upgrade to A64-Venice 3000+ . The high overclock headroom and ease of thermal output plus the low price made the Venice 3000+ a terrific buy. So much buzz on the Opteron Dual Core S939 since November last year; I was hoping I would get the same result my Venice delivers

Nice article. I enjoyed reading it (after my study =.= ).

but shouldn't
"While the X2 3800+ is going for ~$322, the Opteron 165 with 1MB of cache rather than 512mb; 1.8 Ghz versus 2.0 Ghz may well be a draw."
be kb?

A draw as for as performance is concern; large cache lower speed versus smaller cache higher speed.

you clearly don't understand the meaning of this article.

if you want benchmark numbers search google for X2 review; if you want to read an average gamer/user experience with X2 compared to AMD's previous offering; you have it here.

Hi everyone.

jmke/lazyman, one question. When switching CPUs, did you enabled SMP for WinXP or install a fresh copy of WinXP? It's not clear from your article. Are you aware of this issue?

Heh, I must've finished downloading 3DMark06 by the last page...

In that case, and perhaps as an addendum to Quick Summary, did he try a fresh WinXP install for the X2?
