Jing Ting JTS-0005 Motherboard Chipset Cooler Review

We test a heat pipe powered chipset cooling equipped with 40mm fan and a rather unique design; can it keep the nForce4 SLI running cool? Find out in this review.

nice cooler but i would have liked seeing its temps without the fan (passive), to see if its doable with the temps using it passive with good case airflow.

FireTech 7th March 2006 07:02

Lovely but...

I think you might have seen a greater change in temps when replacing a std chipset heatsink and fan assembly.
My problem with this unit is it's cost: Currently it's US$39.95 which is $10 MORE than an AC Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler from the same supplier. I really wanted one of these but....:(

jmke 7th March 2006 08:25

@FireTech: the Freezer is not a chipset cooler, but I also find a price of US$40 quite steep. // if you look into the Blue Ice review you see it improves the temp by ~10°C over the std hsf and fan on the Asus A8N-SLI. ( also check out: http://www.bigbruin.com/reviews05/re...ingting&file=3 )

@Soundwave: if you have a 120mm intake fan in your case, you can set it up to blow air over the JTS-0005, the 40mm fan is only moving a very small amount of air, so any airmovement in the neighbourhood of this unit will be sufficient.

What were they thinking?

That was my point! They are asking 25-30% MORE for a chipset cooler when compared with a decent CPU cooler...
I've been following this product for a while, even as a prototype on a Taiwan forum and thought I'd got the translation wrong. All the guys there went from "I want one now!" to "How much? No way!"
It'll be interesting to see how the new Thermalright chipset cooler is priced on release (even though I think it's less practical than the JT for a lot of MB's).

jmke 12th March 2006 19:33

how about this modded Zalman GPU cooling :)

FireTech 13th March 2006 03:06

He's killed a VF700Cu!!
Smart thinking but limited in orientation choices.. :)

jmke 14th March 2006 16:19

Retail price for the JTS-0005 should be closer to $30 according to Jing Ting, they are looking into solutions to keep the freight costs down

FireTech 14th March 2006 18:44

Interesting news, thanks. Have they mentioned worldwide distribution or is it order direct? Any physical dimensions/tech drawing downloads to check compatability (Thermalright do this)?
Thanks for pursuing this one! :)

Rutar 14th March 2006 18:59

I can only point at the Freezer 4 mod for chipset cooling.

it's the alpha and omega for chipset cooling

it would be cool to see AC selling that, they just need to remove the fan and cut out the middle, it would probably be pretty cheap then too :)

jmke 14th March 2006 19:01

it would be hard to make it into something that would be retail worthy, the product development and testing and the sheer size would increase cost; the way people can keep cost down is to produce 1 products 1000 times; if they make 10 products 100 times it will be more expensive

FireTech 14th March 2006 19:43

A few guys have considered ArcticOC's Freezer mod but then discovereed how hard/expensive the process will be without all the right equipment.
I do understand why the JT is expensive but it's currently just too pricey to be viable for me.

-- they are still looking for worldwide distributors, afaik you can't buy direct from them.
-- they currently don't have any tech drawings of the unit; but should not be extremely hard to make a sketch by looking at the photo's and checking the official dimensions

FireTech 30th March 2006 11:34

Have emailed them again to check distributor progress...

FireTech 2nd April 2006 19:16

no reply from jing ting but there's an ongoing thread at dfi-street.com

jmke 8th June 2006 13:16

JTS-0006 has been released, it's a revision of the original, it has now copper fins and a blue led fan.

FireTech 8th June 2006 21:54

Cheers jmke. as previously stated, very nice but if they're unobtainable or just plain expensive, what's the point....

jmke 8th June 2006 22:15

the point is to get their name out in the hope some large distro picks them up in their product gamma so prices will come down:)

Rutar 8th June 2006 23:02

there is one problem I see

the time where we depended on hot NV chipsets is pretty much over with conroe and as the computex reports show, powerfull passive NB cooling is IN and conroe no longer needs active cooling

therefore, being too late hurts them bigtime

jmke 8th June 2006 23:17

nforce5 is not really "cool" and many boards out there without heatpipes (dfi, foxcon)
