Intel CPU Heatsink S775 Roundup June 2006 We compare nine different Intel socket 775 heatsinks from Thermalright, Zalman, Titan, Scythe, GlobalWin and Thermaltake in our latest roundup. Can they prevent a Pentium 4 Prescott from melting without ruining our ears? Let´s find out. http://www.madshrimps.be/gotoartik.php?articID=433 |
no conroe, no interest in 775 cooling I guess |
soon conroe, much interest in 775 cooling, we are ahead of the pack :) |
I agree! I have a related Intel cooler question for ya though... As you have both the 9500AT and 9500AM2 coolers, from everything I've dug up the mounting point on the base of the cooler appears to be identical on these. For some reason I like the look of the 9500 AM2 cooler to much to let go... I can nab the missing Intel mounting hardware, but I just wanted to ask if you saw any incompatibilities or potential problems in doing this before I eventually plunk down that much for a cooler? Thanks! |
hey there, we don't have the AM2 version, but the S939 version we tested in the past; you'd have to buy 2xZ9500 to make em fit:) the base unit is "one" design and the installation kits are different; I'm speaking for S775 <> S939 versions here; have no experience with the AM2 aha, Piotke to the rescue, check the pics below:) |
Piotke to the rescue ! Zalman 9500 AM2: Zalman 9500 CNPS; Zalman 9500AT all have the same base. So how about the mounting ? Wait a second for that. |
The AM 2 version uses a clip, much as the AC freezer 64. Advantage is that it can allso be used on socket 939. Both the 9500CNPS and tha 9500 At need screews for installation. |
Ah, sorry! Thought it was here I read that review on the 9500AM2... ;) Thank you both very much for the help & pics! I was pretty sure the mounting point on the unit itself was identical, but I wanted to be absolutely sure. Your posts pretty much confirm what I was thinking... I have a friend that can send me the unused Intel mounting hardware from his own 9500 that he installed on a socket939 system, so that isn't a problem. I figure Zalman may release yet another cooler version for Conroe, but even so I'll probably stick with that AM2 9500, since I no longer have a stock cooler left for my current rig to change out for the 7700Cu I use. Again, I appreciate the help! Thank you kindly :) :excellent |

They already have 4 versions of the CNPS9500 out there (None of them their red copper Fatal1ty brand either!). Considering how tricked out the AM2 variant is over the original model when all they had to do was change the mounting bar packaged with it, I believe they might decide to try the same with Conroe's own launch if it'll lives up to expectations. It's just my theory anyway, maybe they'll just release an Intel Fatal1ty CNPS9500 instead... Considering the long list of coolers on their website I don't see why they wouldn't mind adding another few more. ;) |
Heat Issues with pentium 960 D I just built (my first) a systen using the pentium 960 D with a Zahlman cooler. I think it is running very hot. 53-60 degrees in non use mode (less than 5% CPU). It gets to 70 degrees C in high utilization 90% on both CPUs. My room temp is a little warm (about 75 degrees F), but I have four 120MM case fans so I was hoping to see lower temps. However, I do not really know how high a dual core system should or can run at. I am looking for people with experience on the D 960 or similar dual core systems. Anyone care to comment. I am also a rookie on posting stuff. |
Thep roblem is not really the cooling, it's the chip. The PentiumD 960 is one of the hottest, perhaps thé hottest chip. Boosting out a 130 watt !! http://processorfinder.intel.com/det...px?sSpec=SL9AP Should have bought an AMD ;) |
Maybe I should have got an AMD Thx for the reply. Do you know how hot is too hot on that chip? Or where I can find info on it. I have the spec sheet and it tells me the thrmal guideline is 68 degrees for 130W. Does that mean that over 68 degrees is bad or normal? Thx |
Congrats on the new system! However those temps sound to hot to me for the 9xx series of chips, especially with a Zalman cooler... The spec sheet on your processors is at http://processorfinder.intel.com/det...px?sSpec=SL9AP Your processor should not reach over 68.6°C, and will be throttling back hard above that temp. Did you make sure to use a thermal compound/grease between your CPU and the Zalman cooler, and to not use to much of it? If you did use a thermal compound, then I'd remove the cooler, clean the stuff off everything, reply the thermal compound, then re-attach the cooler. It may not be making full contact with the CPU's surface. Piotke, the FX60/FX62 both also have 130watt TDP specs... ;) They are not much better... |
