Arctic Silver ArctiClean

Arctic Silver, manufacturer of Ceramique and AS5 , arguably the finest thermal compounds available, introduces a two stage cleaning fluid/prep liquid designed to remove any thermal paste, and prepare surfaces for a fresh thermal paste application

Anyone got an ETA on these?

Sidney 16th August 2004 20:02

Very good review; nicely written in concise manner. Well done, man.;)

Now, how much in cash.:super:

eva2000 18th August 2004 02:39

nice stuff would be useful for GPU cores and NB cores

Laagvliegerke 18th August 2004 18:03

Where can I find this in Belgium?

ZaVkE 19th August 2004 11:52

Ever tried plain liquid copper polish?

I'm using this for over 3 years now (for cleaning heatsink, cpu, gpu, ...) anf never had any problems with it and always very nice results ... (same mirrorfinish as with this product).

It is also widely spread (i got my in a local brico store) and very cheap. Paid it 3€ for a 250ml bottle :)

Maybe a tip if this product is hard to come by in the future.

jmke 19th August 2004 12:10

are you it doesn't leave residu?

ZaVkE 19th August 2004 13:29

Yes :)
The only thing it leaves is a protective non-conductive film just like this product.

And i'm glad to say that i also have noticed a small drop in temps, but most important a much better heattransfer to the sink (sink is 4-5° hotter after cleaning the base and the core)

Laagvliegerke 19th August 2004 18:38

What's the name of that product? :)
And I thought that a film is not good?

Just look at the title of the review

jmke 19th August 2004 20:36

the name of product Laagvliegerke is referring to! :)

and a film is not good btw

Laagvliegerke 19th August 2004 20:54

No, the name of the product ZaVkE is referring to :D

jmke 19th August 2004 20:57

I need more sleep:)

ZaVkE 19th August 2004 21:25

A film is indeed not so good, but a protective film is in most cases better then corrosion. Thats also the reason why the reviewed product leaves such a protective film.

The name of the product is: "HG koperglans polish" from hagesan.

It's a white bottle with a blue label and white text. The label also has some pictures of copper furniture.

Found the url :)

i use some sort of alcohol(propanol)
a friend of my does it witch aftershave( tommy )

jort 19th August 2004 21:42

the correct name is = ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL

agent #2 19th August 2004 22:16

A tissue and a drop of white spirit do the trick here. :^D

agent #2 19th August 2004 22:28

Edit: no it's another product to remove stickers, but it smells like white spirit.

Their is a big difference between alcohol, ... and those polishes.

Alcohol and so is good for removing the grease from fingers,... and the 'large' dirt on the surface it cleans, but polishes have certain ingredients in it that also clean the very little bits of dirt.

If you cleaned a heatsink with alcohol and afterwards you rub it with polishcotton (in dutch: watten zonder toegevoegd product of zo) you'll see that the cotton turned completely green.
That green is coppercorrosion, but can't be removed by alcohol, aftershave, ...

If you've used a polish you'll see that the polishfluid turns green upon rubbing. That is the corrosion that comes off the heatsink.
The trick is to keep on cleaning, re-applying cleanerpolish and rubbing until the fluid no longer changes colour.
Normally (if you've done it right) when you rub it with polishcotton you'll find that there comes hardly any green off the heatsink anymore.
In other words, the corrosion is gone and the surface can absorbe the heat from the cpu much much more easier.

If you really want to go to the extreme in optimal surface then you must afterwards apply alcohol (just plain alcohol, no aftershave that leaves residu) to remove the protective film left by the polish. And after that clean the heatsink for at least 5 min with polishcotton so that the sink is totally clean. Then you will have the most optimal contact.
When you do this on a lapped heatsink (grain 1600 or 2000 or even more) then you will have best results reachable with that particular type of heatsink.

There is a downside on removing the protective polish.
That is that the copper almost immediatly begins to corrode.
So when you use that technique, apply the heatsink as soon as possible (clean and directly mount, do not wait 5 min or more) or you where better of with the film ;)

Long post i know, but now you have the total explanantion :super:

Arctic Clean on P4 CPU, it's so easy to remove goop now:

Sidney 31st August 2004 19:52

Polish has abrasive materials mixed in, hence the word polish.;)

TeuS 31st August 2004 23:12

don't the abrasive materials reduce thermal conduction because they stay on the CPU and don't evaporate?

Sidney 31st August 2004 23:16

No. the trick is "leave nothing" behind.;)

Best heat transfer properties - Alu, Cu, Silver and Diamond.

TeuS 31st August 2004 23:31

ok; thanks a lot to zavke for the explanation

Sidney 6th December 2004 17:51

I have not seen the product anywhere. They have not released the product at all, just wondering why?;)

insulglass 22nd January 2005 23:05

Here's a little more info...

The product will be released for sale in Mid February (I am a dealer and that's the plan). I do plan to carry these and will be shipping all over. There will be two kits sizes, large and small... at this point, I am guessing that the small cleaning kits should retail in the $5-6USD range and should be enough to clean several CPU remountings. The larger kits will be designed more for repair shops, dealers and builders, etc who REALLY change fans a lot.

Great thanks to Liquid3D for mentioning www.easypckits.com www.Madshrimps.be has given my site strong support in the past, and I am grateful.
