AMD AM2 Heatsink Compatibility List A new AMD socket has been launched, and with it a new mounting bracket, it renders a lot of well known heatsinks useless, we've compiled an extensive list of those which still fit the new AM2 platform out of the box. Essential read for those looking to upgrade. http://www.madshrimps.be/gotoartik.php?articID=451 |
Added Zalman CNPS9500-AM2 and updated Titan Vanessa S/Siberia, they now also support AM2 through use of a new clip. Added Aerocool X-Fire AM2 |
they better need that bracket for an uber powerfull and silent stock heatsink made by AC or else some people will be very pissed |
there *might* be an AM2 version of the Ninja. Scythe is not sure yet what they'll do |
I think they shouldn't release a Ninia for AM2 unless they supply 4 fan brackets =P |
I don't think they include extra brackets just for two customers out there:p |
well, I think a lot of people want "more power" |
got this tidbit of info from Thermalright: "Thermalright is planning to release a new mounting bracket for AM2, no date specified yet though" :super: |
will the asetek antarctica fit the AM2, ddn 't find information... |
send off an email yesterday to Asetek, no news yet. Swiftech is working on AM2 mounting hardware for their waterblocks |
Nice to see my Arctic Freezer 64 will still work. Good news for my wallet ! |
Will the AMD 939 stock sink (the one lazyman reviewed) fit ? Just want to be sure I don't need a new sink or bracket if I upgrade to AM2. |
That one will fit. Everything that uses the clips will work. |

Zalman CNPS7000 with 462 bracket - compatible? Folks, Did anyone try to use the optional mounting bracket included with Zalman CNPS7000 for socket 462? It just looks like it might fit the backplate hole pattern. If it does, then perchance the mounting holes on the heatsink will align as well? Appreciate if some proud owner of AM2 mobo and Zalman CNPS700 could test this. Thanks! |
the holes of S478 don't align with the AM2 holes, it's a different form altogether. |
Not S478, the AMD socket 462... Each Zalman "flower" comes with a pair of aluminum (usually blue tinted) brackets that provide mounting for socket 462. These look just like they have the same pattern as the new AM2 (or not). |
woops, misread the number, sorry, it was still early;) those blue tinted mini brackets are made to fit the mounting holes around the Socket A/462, however the holes on the Socket AM2 platform are different, they are also further apart, so the bracket on the Zalman CNPS7000 would be too short. at http://www.swiftnets.com/products/APOGEE.asp# you can see the mounting bracket and the different holes used for the different sockets, you'll notice that the Socket 462 holes are much closer to the core compared to Intel socket 478 and Socket T. Socket AM2 side mounting clip compare with the mounting holes on Socket 939. |
Thanks, man, appreciate it. |
# ----- Update 13/7/2006 ----- # Silverstone send me news of their AM2 compatible heatsinks: NT04 - AM2 compatible now NT05 - AM2 compatible with updated mounting bracket (late July/August) NT06 - AM2 compatible with updated mounting bracket (late July/August) # Noctua offers free AM2 Upgrade-Kits for NH-U12 and NH-U9 users, Noctua's kit seems to be made to allow heatsinks which previously used 2 screws at either side, to be mounted on AM2, this would expand the compatibility list to include Tuniq Tower 120, Thermaltake Big Typhoon and others. THis new bracket from Noctua is available from their site www.noctua.at |
Thermalright released a custom bracket which allows P4 Clip-on heatsinks to be used on AM2! Check the article's "update section" to see what it looks like |
