the best cooling around :) (a little more expensive than a slk800 but you will notice the difference) |

ok now just convincing my parrents for dze bling bling :p |
ok an slk 900u won't fit on a leadtek nforceČ K7ncr18Dpro. The thingy for your power connector defends it from fitting :( going for a slk 800 |
When the case stands, the clipped SLK800's fins are aligned horizontally, while the 900 vertically. 900 can be a tad worse than 800 with very good rear-case fans but no double-fanned psu. Hell I'd say, I have both, my clipped SLK800 is doing just fine, also easier to install than the screwesque versions. =) But BDke already had much of this info in his post, woops. |
So, where do we stand right now in the P4 arena? Who's the king? Swiftech MCX4000 or SLK800/900U? |
that's a very good question - unfortunately, we haven't had the chance yet to put them up against each other ourselves ... the MCX4000 is not available in belgium, nor does Swiftech want to send us a sample ... funny story there; the MCX4000 has been released for months now - nowhere to be found in belgium, but still we got a rather angry mail from one of the chairmen at Swiftech, because we have tested new Thermalright products against an older Swiftech product  |
Well, I guess I understand where they are coming from because in 3 days of searching the Internet I can only find comparisons between the older MCX462 and the new Thermalrights. Very few reviews have even attempted to compare performance on a P4 platform, let alone match the SLK800/900U up against the MCX4000. OTOH, that does not explain their contradictory behaviour you mentioned here - I think that Swiftech really needs to put up or shut up and send you guys (and other sites) more samples of the MCX4000 if they want it reviewed, maybe even bundle in SLK800U's if they are confident enough! ;) Anyway, if you DO review the two head-to-head may I request you do it at two levels? 1. Max performance fitting the highest performance fan like a tornado for absolute comparison. 2. Low noise performance with maybe a vantec stealth 80mm or similar to see how they match up at low CFM. Thanx |
i know this is quite an old thread but i only saw the article now... but i have a small comment. The performance of the Alpha PAL might have been a bit off cause normally you would install a shroud onto the heatsink before putting on the fan. I understand you might have left it off to offer better results on the YStech test from the side but realisticly speeking fan placed on the side ... doesn't happen much. at least not without a main fan on the HS |
I don't think with/without shroud will help much in the temps, I have never noticed a remarkable difference between the 2 setups. fan from the side: any old case which has a fan at the back of the PC can be turned around to pull in air over the heatsink, recreating the "silent casefan" setup =) the PAL8045 is just not up to par anymore. I'm testing the SP-97 and MCX462-V now, and the Pal8045 is left behind by more then 10-15°C ! |
on such high CFM fans it might not differ much since that would restrict the airflow but on low flow setups it might.... (like the setup i have atm). You'll be probably right tho... im not much of an overclocker... i own apacer ram :) edit: btw... do u reckon i could get my new avatar up here? its 55kb, 10k over your size...hosted on telenet server so downtime is almost none.... |
resize that ******! ;) |
its very small already.... its an animation :) http://users.pandora.be/paul.van.der...uff/avatar.gif |
resize that ******! it's too small for us to see what's going on, and when there's partial nudity involved, seeing what's going on is important |
ok.... avi format :) http://users.pandora.be/paul.van.der...uff/avatar.avi thats whats goin on :) so now you know....... :p |
