nice review :super:

Belgatom 13th February 2003 19:21

nice Review, loadsa numbers to crunch. But the thing I really want to know is, which one is the most reliable ?

jmke 13th February 2003 19:40

that's pretty hard to test Belgatom, the shops cant miss the HD drives for more then 2 weeks.

on such short period the durability is hard to test.
But! google + tech forums can answer you this question :)

thanks for your :super: comment, BiCker is silently very happy also ;)

jakkerd 13th February 2003 20:09

rules :D

i bought myself a cuda IV,
and man!
i wasn't prepared for so much silence :)

i almost miss the sound of a hard drive ;)

Gamer 14th February 2003 20:10

have 2 DiamondMax 9 Plus 2mb cache drives now here
2x120gb hooked up to a HighPoint PCI ATA100 controller

takes 24seconds to copy 793Mb between them
pretty slick in my humble opinion

Bosw8er 12th March 2003 09:14

I changed the maxtor raid0 setup with 2 seagateV 80GB non raid.
HD's are almost inaudible and more then fast enough.
Took 4 to 5 hours to format and partition the 160GB though.

jmke 12th March 2003 09:25

lol :)
only 30-40min here for 120gb =)

80GB NTFS partitioning with w2k = about 20 min
160 GB resizing + 6 partitions creation & formatting (NTFS and FAT32 (for software and drivers)) = 4 to 5 hours

jmke 12th March 2003 10:27

that's way too long in my humble opinion :)

jmke 12th March 2003 17:12

6 HD's installed, room for 2 more =)

getting pretty cramped though...

Magnum_ 12th March 2003 18:12

airflow rating = 0.5 / 10
:D

ModdiN MansoN 12th March 2003 18:14

looks: 0,05 / 10 :s
efficiency: 11/10 ? :D

jmke 12th March 2003 18:16

notice where the fans are.. that's right. front/rear/top
IDE cables go by.. the side

airflow => 8/10 =)
cpu temp= 42°C

each 120gb is on its own Channel giving max. performance
copying files from network + gaming is perfectly possible without slowdown.. excellent M² material :super:

lots of space

[Bonbon] 12th March 2003 19:31

superflower psu with 3 fans ? also :super:
can you see what the hd temps are ? ( possible with speedfan : http://www.almico.com/speedfan408.exe )

jmke 12th March 2003 20:56

do HD have temp sensors? :)

Bosw8er 16th April 2003 12:54

8 mb cache is worth the 18 euro's

10k hd = noise, better wait for second generation sata.
But if you need a disk, buy it now, 80 GB will keep you happy for a long time.

If your low on cash you can still buy a second hand drive.

jmke 16th April 2003 13:37

I have 2x 120gb-2mb versions of the DiamondMax Plus 9, they are used for storage and fast as hell

only consider the 8mb cache if you tend to use it as a system drive or to install games onto it.

if you want a place to store home made movies or music, then the 8mb cache version wont be worth the extra money.

true

even 5400 rpm drives are good enough if only used for storage.

Main aspects you should consider for drives used as storage is price/gb, noise & reliability.

Bosw8er 16th April 2003 13:53

Hombres,

1) if you have an old 20 GB and an old 13 GB disk
2) if you buy a brand new 80 GB disk which is a lot faster than your old hd's

.. on which HD are you going to install the OS ?

Go with the 8MB version or buy a second hand drive for storage purposes.

jmke 16th April 2003 14:02

let's just hope he makes his system parition smaller then 6gb otherwise making a ghost-image can become quite.. impossible :)
