120mm Fan Roundup: 17 Fans Compared

17-Way roundup of 120mm fans from different manufactures including Scythe, Aerocool, Nexus, GlobalWin, Spire, Coolermaster, Papst, Coolink, Acoustifan, mCubed and AC Ryan. We test their performance both temperature as noise wise - and include sound samples of the fans running at different voltages so you can compare them head to head. Are all fans created equal? Let's find out.

wow

huge differences between the voltages

now we need subjective noise comments for 7V and 5V :D

there there, see the "+++++++" ratings; more ++++ means more irritating motor noise up close, less ++ means less motor buzzing noise when held next to my ear:)

Great job as usual!!
It's 4am here so forgive me if I've missed something but I presume one of the Coolermasters wasn't giving a 'measured' rpm reading. The chart looks unfinished without something written in that box though. i.e. 'No Reading"

jmke 24th March 2006 17:42

yes, the missing value is because the RPM is below the threshold of the RPM sensor of the motherboard

Cheers!

heh, that confused me, I thought wtf only ++ for the GLL. But know I understand.

might want to change it, it's not very intuitive for someone who just pops up the review without reading the introduction in detail

having them compared at the different voltages would be nice as it's not really a apple to apple comparison of a motor when one has to do 1500RPM and the other only 900RPM

Rutar 24th March 2006 19:32

charts with the subjective nosie reading and the performance would be nice too =P

thanks, good input:) added that small explanation to the 7/5 comparo pages.

might be a bit hard to do a subject noise + performance chart;

Rutar 24th March 2006 20:03

it could uncover discrepancies between the dba reading and the subjective noise, what the purpose of the subjective noise ratings is ;)
