Zotac GTX275 AMP!

Last week we took a look at AMD’s 4890 GPU which, as we mentioned was more or less an overclocked version of their previous high-end single GPU product- the 4870. Obviously an answer was expected from nVidia to compete on the same price level as the HD4890. The price-point is a pretty relative thing- where we had AMD besting its previous product to compete for a particular price, nVidia is actually toning down their flagship product to compete at that level.

The GTX 275 is based on the 55nm version of the GT200 GPU and has all 240 of its stream processors enabled like its older sibling- the GTX285. What Nvidia has done is disable one of the chip’s ROP partitions, which reduces its fill rate from 32 pixels per clock to 28. This also reduces the total memory interface from 512 bits to 44 bits and the capacity from 1GB to 896MB.

Being one of nVidia’s key board partners, Zotac already has cards ready for the market. We received a card from nVidia as well as Zotac and have benchmarked both of them for this article. As it’s an AMP! Edition model, this GTX275 boasts a pre-overclocked GPU core and memory. The following tables shows the specifications of the GTX 275 is its stock state as well as the AMPed state.
