"A Wobble" responsible for hard drive failures
 
SCIENTISTS at the University of California and Hitachi Global Storage Technologies have worked out what causes magnetic avalanches which cause disk drive failures. According to IT Pro, magnetic avalanches occur when a magnetic head hovers over a patch of disk drive causing the polarity of that part of the drive to change its alignment or spin.
