Is Windows 7 Actually Faster Than Ubuntu 10.04? While Linux has long been talked about as being a faster operating system than Microsoft indows, in 2010 is this still the case? It seems every time we deliver new benchmarks of the EXT4 file-system it's actually getting slower, recent Linux kernel releases have not been delivering any major performance enhancements for desktop users, the open-source Linux graphics drivers are still no match to the proprietary drivers, and "bloated and huge" is how Linus Torvalds described the Linux kernel last year. http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag..._part1&num =1 |
site down ? //edit: no, just realy, reeeaaaaly slow :) |
Probably just a bunch of Linux fanboys trying to DoS the site. :D |
part one was a bit boring, we all know gaming is better on Windows OS. |
Can't agree more with jmke, there's no use in comparing gaming performance because everybody knows that both nvidia and amd drivers for linux are underdevelopped compared to windows drivers. Even worse for this review are the games used, most of them are lightweigth games that hardly stress the gpu, more interesting would it be to use modern games, but sadly those are only available on windows (thus, yet again, there is no real use to check linux' gaming performance). The best way, in my humble opinion, to see which is best is to install both operating systems on an older computer and use it in real life situations and feel which one is the fastest... |
with some load testing software you can actually "benchmark" GUI or you could put a windows & linux powered system next to one another and do two sessions; in session one Windows/LInux users use their favorite OS to run down a list of common tasks; than in session two they switch seats and repeat the process. I got two identical PCs here set up, next to one another, with separate screen/keyboard/etc, same hardware inside... hhmmm ;) |
