What to upgrade, what to upgrade... I don't know if I can even clearly express the weirdness of this situation. I've got a PC that's 15 months old now. And it's still... fine. This computer was a top-flight performer when it was new, and today it... look, I know how this sounds, but it still pretty much is up there with the best. All it seems to lack is 3D video performance, compared with the current New Hotness systems. What the heck is going on? Can it be true that all I need do to bring myself back within 10% of the cutting edge is swap in a new graphics card? That can't be right. http://dansdata.com/upgrade.htm |
it is right :) did you know that back in 2002 I had a 2.53 ghz p4 that was in my first prommy. It did 3.65 ghz... what is the top of the line processor that's been sold now by intel? that's right, I could've kept that one 2 1/2 years ago and still be almost as fast (50 mhz more clockspeed but less bus (180mhz compared to 200) as the current topmodel :) in 30 months for me nothing would have changed. then why did I buy a 2.66, a 3.06, a 3.0 a 3.2 and a 2.4. I must have been a raving mad lunatic. :) |
I enjoyed reading this article. It started me thinking what I was about to do with my vacationjobmoney. :^D |

AXP 2ghz setup with fast AGP card will play all current games fluently :super: |
You have to give credit to the marketing guys at Intel; AMD; ATI and NV. They could stir up products that have only marginal gain. However, it happens only in electronics and automotive industries more than in "house hold" industry. It would be really nice if people are upgrading their refrigerators every year. The "thinkings" into buying trigger our value system differently. Products that have high "personal satisfaction and self rewarding value" command for shorter life cycle. |

You could sum it up much better than I could ever do. Quote:
