WD Purple 10 TB drive helps keep the peace

Recording surveillance footage on SSDs isn't really a good idea. Storage on spinning metal platters is orders of magnitude less expensive, and 24/7 recording means that drives take a lot of wear and tear. The advantages that SSDs have in terms of lower seek times and higher sequential throughput are essentially wasted when recording video in real time, too. In surveillance, the name of the game is raw capacity, and Western Digital's new Purple 10 TB hard drive purports to offer a 25% increase in capacity compared to the company's previous largest surveillance drive. WD says the Purple 10 TB is built for "always-on, high-definition security systems" and can deal with "up to 64 HD cameras."
