Volkswagen signs transportation pact with Microsoft

Connected car marriage made in….

Hitler’s favourite car company has teamed up with the people who brought you Windows Vista as part of a drive to offer connected vehicle services across the globe.

Volkswagen said it had signed a deal with Microsoft to cooperate on cloud computing in China and the United States,

By allowing vehicles to tap Vole’s cloudy computer processors, Volkswagen can offer its customers personalised onboard media streaming, and make suggestions for parking and charging.

Volkswagen will use its Automotive Cloud as the core of its vehicle and service data operations for its new ID electric cars which are due to hit showrooms in 2020, the carmaker said.

“The strategic partnership with Microsoft will turbocharge our digital transformation, says Dr. Herbert Diess, CEO of Volkswagen AG. “Volkswagen, as one of the world’s largest automakers, and Microsoft, with its unique technological expertise, are outstandingly well-matched.

Together, we will play a key role in shaping the future of auto-mobility.”

The Volkswagen Automotive Cloud will be created from scratch, powered by Microsoft’s Azure cloud and IoT Edge platform. Microsoft cloud services such as Azure IoT, PowerBI and Skype will be at the forefront of the user experience, which include telematics and productivity solutions.

“Volkswagen is harnessing technology to digitally transform and deliver innovative new connected car services to its customers,” said Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft. “The world’s leading companies run on Azure, and we are thrilled that Volkswagen has chosen Microsoft. Together we will reimagine the driving experience for people everywhere.”
