With some killer hardware from both ATI and nVidia available at prices which were not quite imaginable a few months ago, which one would you pick if you had $300 to spare?

X1800XT or 7900GT ?

Both these cards are currently priced ~$300 at Newegg.com .

there's no performance difference between 256Mb and 512Mb at the resolutions and quality settings these card can run the games at; and if it is there it will be nothing to write home about; Newegg lists X1800XT 256Mb at $300.

7900 GT ftw. Runs cool, isn't loud, The XFX XXX Edition is performs well above the standard 7900 GT (I'd guess the same for the evga CO version).
Couple that with lifetime warranties (for those two companies). Did I also mention the 7900 GT only takes 1 slot? I don't see a reason to buy the X1800XT out of anything but out of love for ATI.

Oblivion fans will love X1800XT as it outperforms 7900GT by quite a margin in that game, in single card tests

I would go for the 7900Gt, overclocks verry well, runs cool, and it's better for my electric bill
