Ultra XL Dual Channel 1024MB PC3200 Memory

Ultra sent over one of their 1024MB kits of their DDR XL memory for us to check out. With the claim of "Extreme Low Latency No Matter What!!". A bold claim that we will definitely test to see if these DDR XL memory modules are up to the challenge. Ultra rates the XL series at 2-2-2-5 @ 400MHz Front Side Bus speed. The XL memory is also has a nice look with the Gold heat spreaders to help control the modules temperature.

I pity that company, their product is AGES too late.

a) DDR memory doesn't matter since AMD and Intel have moved on

b) latencies no longer matter because Intel is the fastest CPU

c) 2 GB is the default for a new system in the target market of XL memory

a) yes
b) more or less, intel isn't the only player; Intel plays only in the high end market right now...
c) most of the computers are office machines who have enough withy 512. An above average user will have 1 gig. 2 Gb is far from common.... I dare to call myself an enthousiast and most of my computer have 1 gb or less...

c) yes, but I doubt the average joe needs low latency memory this memory is clearly marketed at the high end user
