UCLA could give nerds muscles No more sand being kicked face of Linux developers University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA) materials scientists and SRI International have developed a new material and manufacturing process for creating artificial muscles that are stronger and more flexible than their biological counterparts. Qibing Pei, a professor of materials science and engineering at the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering said that creating an artificial muscle to enable work and detect force and touch has been one of the grand challenges of science and engineering. This might be because having better abs might enable a few more boffins to find mates. The advance could lead to soft robots with improved mobility and endurance, and new wearable and haptic technologies with a sense of touch, which does sound like someone is trying to build a sex robot, but that might just be our filthy minds. The manufacturing process could also be applied to other soft, thin-film materials for applications including microfluidic technologies, tissue engineering, or microfabrication. https://fudzilla.com/news/55125-ucla...-nerds-muscles |
