Seagate Enters Perpendicular Recording: Momentus 5400.3 Review
 

Perpendicular recording is here in a big way with the Momentus 5400.3, bringing increased performance and capacity with decreased rotational noise and power levels -- and a decrease in rotational speed. Putting that in perspective, Seagate's own Momentus 7200.1 was able to exceed the 5400.3 for only its first 30GB of drive space, from that point onward the "slower" 5400.3 owned the transfer graph. Momentus 7200.1 owners aren't left in the cold, as their drive still provides superior seek times, and optimizing its performance is as simple as limiting the OS/application partition to 30GB.
