Public cloud worth $70 billion this year

A report said that public cloud computing will be worth as much as $70 billion worldwide in 2015.

IDC describes cloud computing as a “substanial transformative force” which is revolutionising all areas of IT and is the basis for big data, mobile computing and social networking.

Businesses, said the report, are looking for cloud answers that easily fit to their own requirements.

The forecast describes the opportunities for businesses in 20 different sectors and looks at Software as a Service (SaaS), platform as a service (PaaS) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS).

The top vertical markets deploying public clouds are discrete manufacturing, banking, profressional services, process manufacturing and retail – those five areas will account for as much as 45 percent of the total spend.
