Plextor announces burner... to destroy CD/DVD Data Storage specialist Plextor has announced an external optical drive designed to delete all the data stored on a recordable or rewriteable DVD or CD - permanently. It does it quickly, too - single layer CD-R/RW and DVD±R/RW media take just three minutes to wipe, the company claimed. |
What's wrong with breaking a disc into pieces ? |
the pieces still contain data |
Yes, but is it possible to read those small broken pieces ? |
if you reconstruct it inside a template CD and cut out the missing piece; sure, why not, takes time and effort and money but if they end result is you reading secrets, it might be worth it? |
it's more like a device for companies that store sensitive data on a CD/DVD. You can do lots of things to destroy discs, like cutting it into pieces (data layer with a cutter) or in strokes with a shredder (this can be reconstructed), you can put it into a microwave (dangerous and stupid), you can burn it (effective, fun, but it smells and you're left with dirt) or you can blow it up (dangerous, stupid, fun and effective :D ). |
