I know about the bandwidth but the end result (performance) is not that different, meaning it doesn't justify buying them.

well not if you want to upgrade to a beefier cpu and you still have some (recently purchased) ddr lying around but if you're buying an all new system, i don't see what the problem is... prices on ddr2 are very competitive nowadays if you ask me...
