I can find one on the UK for £112, I think it will be a vast improvement over my standard Dell 5400rpm drive.

Luckily my laptop (1720) takes 2 drives so I can use the OCZ for the OS and leave the disk drive for storage only.

I should see a large performance improvement, shouldn't I?

access times will make a large difference and a 5400rpm laptop drive will definitely be slower then this SSD for everyday usage; only for pure write actions it might be slightly slower/on par

This is the only review I found for the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 250GB (WD2500BEVS).

If I read it right, write speed is 42.9 MB/s. I can't tell for sure.

That sounds about right for a 5400RPM laptop drive.

just received WD2500BEVS here at work, ordered as replacement part; might do a few read/write tests if I find a nice SATA hotdock :)

do note that in the ATTO HDD tests you can select the file chunk size, smaller file chunks are used for small files (duh!) but also windows swap file. In such situations the controller on the SSD will be limiting factor as it can't keep up, you'll see lower performance here in pure write/read speed but the lower access time does make up for this.
