Nvidia Unleashes GeForce Go 7400, 7600, 7800.

Nvidia Corp. at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) unveiled its new GeForce Go models 7400, 7600 and 7800 mobile graphics processors designed for various notebooks in an attempt to grab market share away from ATI Technologies’ with its Mobility Radeon products. The chips are made using the 90nm process technology and should give a glimpse on the future desktop GeForce processors, but Nvidia remained tight-lipped over the specifications for the parts.

The new GeForce Go 7300, 7400 and 7800 are based on the company’s latest GeForce 7 micro-architecture that offers Shader Model 3.0, PureVideo engine and other technologies. The advantages of the whole family are advanced programmability of the processors and increased horsepower amid relatively low power consumption.

“We are now seeing this performance per watt efficiency driving GeForce Go 7 GPUs deeper into all segments of the notebook market, especially with the latest platforms from Intel and AMD,” said Dr. Jon Peddie, president of Tiburon, California-based Jon Peddie Research, the market research firm that tracks GPU chips.

So far no official information regarding specifications of the GeForce Go models 7800, 7600 and 7400 have been released. Nevertheless, the GeForce Go 7800 is likely to be a slightly less speed version of the GeForce Go 7800 GTX, while the GeForce Go 7400 is a high-performance flavour of the GeForce Go 7300. Meanwhile, the GeForce Go 7600 is a totally new product that will eventually replace the GeForce Go 6600-series.

Nvidia said that several suppliers and original equipment manufacturers, including: Asustek, Acer, Gateway, LG, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba and others, will release notebooks based on the newly introduced chips and Intel Centrino Duo (Napa) mobile platform.
