Nvidia SLI, SLI's back with a vengeance Nvidia steps up to the plate today with the re-introduction of the SLI concept on the GeForce 6800 series, again using the SLI moniker but now with a different approach to the same principles that made Voodoo2 SLI a huge success. Ouch :) http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/article/1728/ |

They could only do that with the help of the 3Dfx engineers they got in their research teams... Which shows how good 3Dfx was before being bought up by nVidia... And, it's a real nice idea for a cheap upgrade... 1 Year after your first card, you buy an identical, but cheaper one, and you got almost double the performance at a reduced cost... Problem is to find the adequate mobo, cos to find one with to PCI-E16x slots... :( |
|
ati will come with the same thing, and you will be able to fill ALL your pci-x slots with x800xt's. teh slower pcix slots will have bridges and will do stuff like separate enemies and such so if you have 5 xt's you will render 4 very very goodlooking enemies ;) |
some questions... 1.if you overclock them, will that be simultaneous overclocks? coz if they oc simultaneously, that could be quite a problem if you have a good and a bad card for OC...and another thing... airflow on that impinged card will probably suck quite badly... 2. how the hell are we gonna put non standard cooling solutions (wc/pelts) on the middle card. simpy impossible... as any combination of two of these will have higher results then even the greatest overclock on a single card (+80%!!!), this will be the death of exotic cooling solutions on gpu's. and you lose ALL pcislots, that's for sure... |
longer SLI piece? that gets rid of most proplems you mentionned. as for the overclocking: at theinq they say you overclock them sync, so if you have a good and a bad card, you're busted :) |
