nVidia Officialy Launches 7900 Series - Benchmarks Inside! Spring already? NVIDIA has its “spring refresh,” and they cleaned a few things up, repackaged what they already have, and have given us that new silicon kind of feeling. We love the smell of silicon in the morning. It has now been eight months since NVIDIA announced and hard launched their next generation GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) technology codenamed G70, better known as the GeForce 7800 series. The GeForce 7800 GTX and GT have been very successful GPUs for NVIDIA. Many gamers around the world have purchased video cards based on these GPUs to simply have better gaming experiences. While these GPUs were successful, around four months ago NVIDIA decided to up the ante even more by introducing a mini-refresh of their high-end GPU, the 7800 GTX offering even more performance with more local framebuffer memory and higher clock speeds. While this card was “hard launched” its inventory quickly dropped into obscurity bringing with it stories that it was only launched by NVIDIA to help win the benchmarks that it puts so much value in. NVIDIA insists that sales simply outstripped supply. Either way, there have not been many of these cards around, and after so long, it has really left us feeling that it was not much more than a type of red herring. 18 reviews/previews listed: HardOCP: http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/articl...50aHVzaWFzdA== Anandtech: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2717 Bjorn3D: http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=891 TechReport: http://techreport.com/reviews/2006q1...0/index.x?pg=1 Hexus: http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=4872 HardwareZone: http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles...?cid=3&id=1839 HotHardware: http://www.hothardware.com/viewartic...leid=791&cid=2 ClubIC (FR): http://www.clubic.com/article-32655-...njour-g71.html iXBT (RU): http://www.ixbt.com/video2/g71-part1.shtml Beyond3D: http://www.beyond3d.com/previews/nvidia/g73/ Guru3D: http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/326/ PCPer: http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=213&type=expert Tweaktown: http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/880/ AMDZone: http://www.amdzone.com/modules.php?o...icles&secid=13 PCstats: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1930 ExtremeTech: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...129TX1K0000532 Overclockers.co.nz: http://www.overclockers.co.nz/ocnz/r...txa1900xtx0106 HardInfo.dk: http://www.hardinfo.dk/show.asp?desc=4372 HardwareZoom: http://www.hardwarezoom.com/viewcont...octype=Reviews NordicHardware: http://www.nordichardware.com/Review...&skrivelse=473 -- more links to be added, be sure to come back |
Now, I am aware that in reporting these test results, I am committing a grievous wrong. Have a look, for instance, at where this ranks on at the Internet Scale of Mortal Evil. Starting at the top and moving down: * Hitler * Clubbing innocent baby seals * Testing video cards with mismatched drivers * DRM :^D from Tech-Report they also included the newly released X1800GTO in their tests :hello: |
Why doesn't [M] get a pair of G71's? :p |
We run this site as a hobby; not as a job like the top tier websites who get their samples in early and test the cards during the day. |
quite happy with the results budget wise I'm quite happy with those benchmarks. The GT7900 on its own is still slower than a pair of 7800gt, heck, even the 7900GTX is slower than them. That's good news for people like me who bought an sli-mobo (asus p5nd2 in my case) but didn't buy the second GPU yet, hoping to be able to upgrade on the cheap in the future. |
I don't think the 7800 series will drop in price; they will just disappear and be replaced with 7900 counterpart -- ebay/forums is the place to shop for 7800 I think |
what are you talking about; A64 3000+ is enough to play all latest games 1280x1024 with max detail and even 2x/4x AA with 7900GT. just so you know; there are only a few Dual Core enabled games; and at higher resolutions they don't offer a very impressive difference between DC optimalisations enabled/disabled |
most intresting about the 7900 series is the much lower power consumption and the killer price of the 7900GT |

anyway, even 3DMark06 does not show a large difference -- and fear even less. http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=get...&articID= 413 |
