| New Stock Intel Prescott P4 Cooler Intel packages all their retail processors with an integrated heatsink-fan. With the pricing of the retail package so close to the OEM versions, the vast majority of buyers go the path of least resistance. The supplied HSF undergoes periodic changes, usually not announced by Intel. These changes are most often related to increases in heat dissipation: As a new core kicks the thermal envelope a bit further up, the HSF gets progressively more buff. http://www.silentpcreview.com/article170-page1.html Accordingly, the new HSF is not as good as the previous all copper base which turns out 22C above ambient at load is not bad at all. In fact, it is good with only ~3000 RPM fan speed. When the built in temp sensor kicks in, I've experienced over 4,500 RPM with generates pretty loud noise.
