Didn't Jmke experience similar problem a few months back? The board worked on bench but failed to boot inside the case. He later found out the mounting screws too tight or too loose was affecting the board power circuit. Not saying this is normal.

This is a time consuming hobby ...:D

Had the same thing, using the middle atx-mobo-screw made my board non-working.
Unscrewing it : everything works fine.

Took me quite some time before i found that one.
.. a little longer than the time i was testing a rig and the mouse didn't work ... after a while i found out i had TWO defective mice ... 2 !! (TWO !!) (and that's the only time i EVER had a defective mouse anyway)

I can remember what I read and did months and years ago; I could not remember what I did minutes and days before.

Conclusion:
Old AGE.:D

to demystify : the mobo was never inside any case, it's sitting on my bench on an antistatic bag.

I installed an entire winxp with all bells and whistles tonight, sp1,2 drivers and so on.
this happened with the big mobo powerplug HALF INSERTED.
the mobo NEVER reacts with the powerplug decently inserted.
sometimes the fans start spinning with the powerplug partially inserted, sometimes they don't.
so the install worked. then I accidently touched the box on which the mobo was lying with an elbow and directly everything turned off again, unable to boot.
so it worked, rebooted, installed perfectly for 4-6 hours this night (no I didn't sleep, and still have to work :( ), but now it's again to stage 0, meaning it again won't boot, playing with the powerplug moving it around little bits gets the fans spinning, however it won't boot now, the booting was a luck-thing.

another weird thing was that the corecell utility of msi gave me 3 volts on the processor read-out when I was installing. this probably was a wrong readout.


is the mobo powerplug damaged? (probably)
somebody close to me has a socket 939 mobo?





it only worked that time with the powerplug in the mainbaord at just the right angle, then everything seemed to work, now nothing does.

The only thing I could think of may be "funny"...

1) are the plug or socket of the power source properly grounded (earth wire)..... try using another "wall" outlet or change the power plug from PSU to wall outlet. Improper grounding will have the same simptom you are experiencing.

2) Try using an aligator clip grounding the mobo to psu housing and see if this would help.

3) Check all the "pins" of the 20-pin connector and see if all the pins (females) are pushed all the way down to make good contact with the "male" pins socket on the board. (this is where I thought was funny ....... you know, Male/Female :D) saying it to a MD.

Wall outlet = the connection from your PSU to the power source or surge protector to the power source.

Earth wire = the third wire or the ground wire (there are three wires in AC "alternate Current" hot/return/ground - in North America they are in White/Green/Black color .... the black is the ground or earth.

Alligator clip = a clip on connector looks like the mouth of an alligator = firm bite :D

Example = all water cooling pumps (sold in the U.S.) must have "good ground" otherwise, the pump does not run, i.e. two wires socket does not turn the pump on. It requires a 3-wire plug and grounded socket. Improper ground wiring in the house will not turn the pump on.

This applies to both 110 and 220 volts.

I hope I spelled it out right .... ;)
