Default MSI Expands Barebone Family with WiFi-enabled SKU

MSI recently added two new SKUs into its small form-factor MSI Entertainment Gaming Appliance PC product line – the MEGA 180 and MEGA 865 barebones. With new products featuring exciting features, MSI has additional chances to land additional orders on its SFF systems as well as win retail customers’ hearts.

MSI unveiled its MEGA barebone personal computer systems in late March 2003. In order to offer something really exciting to its clients and appear to be competitive on the market, MSI incorporated variety of advanced capabilities into its MEGA PC lineup, such as, radio, ability to play CDs and MP3s on power-off, optional remote control, card-reader, TV-Tuner, even speakers as well as some other exciting options. In about one year after initial product launch, MSI is expanding its MEGA offerings with solutions for AMD Athlon XP processors as well as Intel Pentium 4 chips with 800MHz Quad Pumped Bus.

The new MSI MEGA 865 is based on i865G – a version of Intel’s 865 chipset with integrated Intel Extreme Graphics 2 core. The part fully supports Intel’s 478-pin processors with 800MHz processor system bus and also supports the whole plethora of options available for MEGA PCs.

MSI’s MEGA PC 180 may be even more exciting than the i865G-based one. The SKU is built upon NVIDIA nForce2 core-logic supporting AMD Athlon XP processors, PC3200 memory and NVIDIA’s own highly-acclaimed SoundStorm technology with DolbyDigital high-quality audio. Moreover, there is built-in Wi-Fi 802.11b capability in the barebone, according to MSI.

Both products were demonstration at CES 2004 in Las Vegas, Nevada last week, MSI said. Availability and pricing details are to be determined later
