John Romero Making a New Shooter
 

Time to dig those old Daikatana jokes folks as its been reported that John Romero is working with a concept artist on a new shooter. While his wife Brenda was concerned with how much he was gonna say John was quoted as revealing "I haven't made a shooter since 2000. So I'm basically starting to work on another one,"

As someone who actually owns his previous "magnum opus" Daikatana...I like it! Sure its bad, but its in my humble opinion a MST3K kind of bad, like "You Are Empty" with its 20 foot tall mutant attack chickens or Soldier Of Fortune 3 with its "bullet grazed enemy becomes a blood fountain". Its bad but entertainingly so. And in a world where a Goat Simulator sells almost a million copies who knows, maybe some old school Romero will find a niche?

those that read Masters of Doom ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masters_of_Doom ) will know that Romero needs a bit of structure to perform at his best, left to his own devices things got out of hand quick when he was younger... same for Carmack who went into engine completely, without focus on gameplay and fun.

best ever FPS was created by the J&J , because the complemented each other greatly: Doom.

Quake was technically excellent (it was the basis for almost all 3D games that followed) but without leadership it thrived on the multiplayer aspect, the single player game paled in comparison to the competition.

than Valve licensed the Quake 1 engine, made Half-Life and proved that a combination of high tech and good storytelling is GOLD! :)
