Default Intel won't walk away from the Itanium chip

Dual core technology will first ramp in the consumer market, said Paul Otellini in answer to a question from the web. Over this year and next year there will be dual core chips in every part of Intel's production......

A former employee asked what Intel's plans were for the Itanium. Paul Otellini said it was a RISC replacement processor, typically running Linux. There are a number of companies who run SAP on Windows where the Itanium fits into the infrastructure nicely. Intel wasn't walking away from the Intanium, he said.
