Intel's 'Larrabee' on Par With GeForce GTX 285 ?
 

We were told that Larrabee is currently only capable of performance levels similar to Nvidia's GeForce GTX 285. While this isn't a bad thing in by any measure, it doesn't quite line up with a lot of the heat that we've been told. The partner said that with current Larrabee silicon, things may change down the line, but it did not expect Intel's graphics solution to take the high-end of the market. At the time of Larrabee's release, both AMD/ATI and Nvidia will introduce newer and faster versions of its GPUs. Despite this, it's still important to keep in mind that Intel has always been an enabler of technology, pushing other industry leaders to adopt new technology.

GTX 285 performance isn't bad for nothing but a bunch of old Pentium 1's in one chip :D

But no mention of clockspeeds... supposedly Larrabee could offer clockspeeds anywhere form 1.5 to 2.5GHz... could be plenty of performance not yet seen if this is true.

if their first product matches performance of GTX 285 and price of GTX 260 than they have a good product on their hands; now add some (hopefully) nice scaling into the mix, and they'll be able to grab top spot if they can put more cores into one package; they can ask for a premium if they can grab the performance crown

The clock ranges Tech Report theorizes jives with some other engineer's estimates I've read. So a 1GHz clock range could give a very large amount of performance scaling if it performs par to a GTX 285 at it's lowest clocks.

Question is how much will the various cut down versions of Larrabee cost, they were going to offer several with various numbers of cores disabled.
