jmke | 17th April 2006 20:40 | Intel Pentium D 805 Smithfield Dual Core Processor Most enthusiasts will dismiss the Pentium D 805 with indifference, and they'd be missing out on a surprisingly impressive processor. For the starving student, internet capable Grandma, or people needing a short term solution until Conroe's arrival, the Pentium D 805 is a very good option. Anandtech, as usual, did a great writeup earlier this week, and in their conclusion they touch on the fact that for merely $30 more you can get a much better processor in the Pentium D 820....which is true.....but that $30 can get you a DVD burner, a cheap case, or a better cooling solution. I think they miss the point in that this processor is not targeting the enthusiast crowd. Having said that, the Pentium D 805 proved to be a really good overclocker, scaling well past 3.5GHz while on air cooling. |
