Intel intros two new Dualcore processors

Intel would usually push a new processor, solid state drive or motherboard through press announcements, series of reviews - the works. However, once the boys'n'girls over at Santa Clara are done with the launch of a new line-up, sales decides when line-up refreshments are coming out. Thus, we were not surprised to read that Intel just quietly refresh their current desktop processor lineup. Two new processors have been added to its existing desktop assortment, one of which will undoubtedly attract the attention of overclockers and enthusiasts around the World.

The first and - to us - most interesting newcomer to Intel's desktop-aimed line up will be the second fastest Dual-core processor ever made [first one is still "polar cap melting" 150W TDP Pentium D 965 at 3.73 GHz], the Core i5 680. Predictably targeted for Socket 1156, the i5-680 boasts four threads, 4MB L3 cache, integrated graphics unit and an expected TDP-rating of 73 Watt. The processor, which operates at 3.60 GHz has a 27x multiplier (27 x 133 MHz) and can reach Turbo Boost speeds of 3.86 GHz.
