Intel DX58SO Motherboard Gets SLI Support

When Intel launched its Core i7 processors and X58 chipset last year, almost all X58-based motherboards featured SLI support from Nvidia—except, strangely, for Intel's own DX58SO "Smackover" mobo. Now, three months later, Nvidia says it's finally struck a licensing agreement with Intel, bringing support for multi-GPU GeForce configs to the DX58SO at last.

According to Nvidia, the DX58SO supports "any combination" of GeForce graphics processors, including Quad SLI with a pair of GeForce GTX 295s. Unlike with the old Skulltrail dual-CPU platform, Intel didn't have to put an Nvidia PCI Express controller on its latest motherboard. Rather, Nvidia allows SLI licensees simply to embed a key in their motherboards' BIOSes. ForceWare drivers enable SLI if they find the key.
