Geforce 6600 STD better deal than 6600LE

FOLLOWING the suggestion of a friend we investigated the prices of Nvidia's older Geforce 6600 standard and the upcoming 6600LE card.
The 6600 standard is clocked at 300MHz core and 550MHz memory and has eight pipelines. Down in Euroland this card can be bought for as little as €85.29 + shipping but including VAT. In Austria, thhe same card costs some €6 more as we need to pay 20 per cent of VAT while Germans pay just 16 per cent.

You can get one of Palit Daytona by far the cheapest 6600 256MB DDR, DVI, TV-out, PCIe here.

We checked the new 6600LE card. It took us a while to figure out what is the point of this cheap and affordable SLI card. It should be available in the next few days but will not be as cheap as we expected. It turns out that MSI will have some of these cards ready featuring 256MB DDR and a DVI. This card has 300 MHz core and 500 MHz memory but only half of the pipelines, it has totally four pipelines. The guys at geizhals website actually stated that "The Geforce 6600LE is 6200, just four pixelpipelines". Those guys are kind of right. Still, the 6600LE brings support for SLI and that’s about it. You can get an MSI Geforce 6600LE for €88.92 here

It turns out that GeForce 6600 standard with eight pipelines costs €3 less or more than the 6600LE, the card that has just four pipelines. However knowing Nvidia I don’t think that all 6600 STD will work in SLI, so you'd better check whether your card has an SLI connector interface. The one we wrote about hasn’t, but colleagues reported that they got two cards running without bridge connector under leaked beta 80.40 drivers. Still with release 80 of Nvidia driver you might not need one but this is still under construction. µ

This explains my 6200 softmod to 8 pipelines is seen as 6600GT;)
