Gainward to announce Geforce 8600GT with 1Gb for €250
 

The core will work at 500 MHz while the memory will run at 1000 MHz which is not the fastest we've seen but don’t forget that we are talking about twice as much memory than anyone else uses for 8600 GT. The card should cost about €250 and it will be available from next week.

What... are... they.. thinking? €250 buys you a Geforce 8800 GTS 320Mb which will wipe the floor with the performance this 8600 GT offers. Seriously now, WHAT is the point of this product? This product should not be launched or released, it will only fool those who think more video card memory = better; and they'll be stuck with a €250 low level card

This is no different than the XFX 8600GTS XXX Edition that held a MSRP of $249 at launch. They will lower their prices when their sales fall below expectations I would expect, just as XFX quickly did several times with their card.

I agree it is an extremely silly card though... but again so is the 1gb HD 2900 too.

the HD 2900 XT has a slight chance to use that 1gb if pushed hard enough, this 8600 GT? no way:)

I think the HD 2900XT would be giving unplayable framerates long before it put the full 1GB to good use.
