Far Cry patch 1.2 "recall" tells its own tale
 

Our talkative birds tell us that ATI is worried about SM 3.0 and that that concern resulted in a financial injection to UBI-Soft with ATI helping UBI to justify a new project where they could make custom Shader model 2.0b patch. With this new Shader model 2.0b and possible improved performance ATI could claim that Shader 2.0 is still a good thing and possibly neutralise Nvidia Shader 3.0 performance dominance threat.

ATI is denying this.
