Default DOS to DirectX and Beyond

For those old enough to remember DOS gaming, my condolences. While many of those games were a lot of fun, the amount of time wasted on configuration problems was stupefying. DirectX was supposed to eliminate those kinds of problems...but it didn't succeed at first. Fortunately, Microsoft stuck with it and continued to refine DirectX until it became the stable and robust system it is today. But just what is DirectX?

Digital Silence takes a look at the basics of DirectX and why it was needed. The article also touches on DirectX's past, present and future.
